Congratulations to all winners: Community Radio Awards UK

Following an inspiring Community Media Conference in Sheffield, the evening was the time for the annual Community Radio Awards celebration: Before the festive evening, where the decoration, the festive atmosphere and quite a few dresses and suits left nothing to be desired, more than 360 entries from over 75 stations had been whittled down to five in each category. The wide variety of categories gave a powerful testimony to what is considered important in community radio in UK. They were:

* Community Development Project of the Year
* Station of the Year
* Female Presenter of the Year
* Male Presenter of the Year
* Community Show of the Year
* Live Event or Outside Broadcast of the Year
* Entertainment Show of the Year
* Speech & Journalism of the Year
* Arts & Creative Radio of the Year
* Specialist Music Show of the Year
* Sports Show of the Year
* Volunteer of the Year
* Young Person of the Year (under 25)
* Sage Person (Over 60)
* Newcomer (new to radio in last 12 months)
* Innovation Award

With more than 200 people attending the celebrations, 50 projects recognised at the 2018 Community Radio Awards with the Irish language station Raidió Fáilte from Belfast named Station of the Year.
Martin Steers, awards chair, said: “This independent event continues to grow from year to year, and it’s amazing to build momentum and celebrate the fantastic work that this sector produces in its communities on a daily basis.”

For the CMFE delegation, it was a powerful experience to be part of this celebration of this mature community media organisation! Congratulations to all winners and to CMA for their great members!
