Conference on Media and Migration Awareness

at Kampnagel Internationale Kulturfabrik, Hamburg, Germany – November 24rd – 25th

The Conference on Media and Migration Awareness is a two-day event jointly organized by Refugee Radio Awareness Network, Arbeitsgemeinschaft Radio e.V Freies Sender Kombinat and Kampnagel Internationale Kulturfabrik. It convenes approximately 250 participants to engage in discussions with key stakeholders (policy makers, educators, social workers, activists, bloggers, journalists, or representatives of communities) around the importance of social empowerment and participation.

The purpose of the conference is to create a forum that brings together community media projects promoted by migrants and refugees, and mainstream media in discussion panels, workshops and exhibitions.

The CMMA 2017 sees community media as important enablers of freedom of expression, producers of counter alternative narratives, and promoters of media pluralism and diversity.

The third CMFE media literacy workshop part of the Media Against Hate campaign will take place as a Conference pre-event on November 23rd – 24th and will address the following topics:

  • Empowerment and protection of women journalists and media makers (round table)
  • Creating hate-free media environments for young people – platforms and literacy skills (training)

Journalists, community media producers and NGO representatives from all over Europe will meet to exchange good practices on prevention of hate speech and discrimination, in particular against women journalists, refugees and migrants.

In the course of this conference, CMFE will also hold its yearly General Assembly – on Saturday, 25th of November. Details will follow soon!
